Weekly status report generator
Write a weekly status report or project status update email. Fill in the boxes, check the report, and copy it to send to your client.
Prefilled values are an example. Replace them with your project details. The date is today in your browser.
One result per line. Say what the client has now, not what you worked on.
Anything that moved: a date, a cost, or a decision.
Subject:
Send it each week without the copy and paste. Friday queues an email with each update and keeps updates on one private page. No client login. Start your free trial
How the status report generator works
Fill in the boxes.
Write what got done, what comes next, what you need from your client and anything that changed. Use one result per line so the client can review each item separately.
Check the report.
The report updates as you type. Replace all example details before sending it, including the request deadline. Check that each statement describes your project and that dates match the period you are reporting.
Copy and send it.
Paste the report into an email or a document. The generator does not send it for you. If clipboard access is blocked, select the report text and copy it manually.
Write an update your client can act on
Start with completed results, rather than time spent on tasks. Name what is ready to review and tell the client where to find it when you send the report. Keep internal notes out of the email unless the client needs them to make a decision.
Use the Next section to explain the work you plan to do after the reported period. In Need from you, ask for a specific answer or approval. Add a deadline only when there is a date you need the answer by. Leave either section empty when you have nothing to add.
Check the fallback text before sending. An empty Done box adds a prompt about unfinished work, and an empty Changes box says there is no change to scope, cost or timing. Replace those lines when they do not describe your project. The generator formats your words and does not verify project facts.

Weekly status report questions
What should a weekly status report include?
Include what got done, what comes next, what you need from the client and by when, and anything that changed. Describe results the client can review rather than an internal task list.
How long should a weekly status update be?
Keep the report short enough to read on a phone. Give each result its own line and remove repeated details. Include enough context for the client to understand a change or answer a request.
Is a status report the same as a status update email?
They hold the same information. A status update email is the report sent to the client's inbox, with the project and date in the subject line.
Is this generator free?
Yes. There is no signup. Report text stays in your browser and is not saved by the generator. Copying puts the report on your clipboard so you can paste it where you choose.
What if nothing got finished this week?
Send the report anyway. Replace the default Done text with what is holding the work up, what you are doing about it and when you expect it to move. Do not describe unfinished work as a completed result.
